His name Dijon, the color of mustard

To ride him calms my mind, flustered

I would ask him, to the mountain please

He would angle his wings, we’d fly with ease

Of course he would often detour

Anywhere, his choice du jour

I don’t mind the deviation much

Instinctively he knows when to touch

My mind with lovely stories told

Adventures together when we were bold

He’s my friend and companion true

He takes me where I forget the blue

We streak through a sunset glowing

All the while he is knowing

What my mind and heart feel

Every voyage a comfort wields.

  1. I would love a dragon like yours, Cheryl, and I love his name and colour! The stories are a bonus, and the rhyming couplets add a kind of jauntiness to your poem, which is a delight to read.
