It wasn’t in the least remote
Fortifying his response
Cigarettes and whiskey long
Even then he felt no shame
Putting her writing to the flame
Detective work can make you queasy
Falling for the guilty isn’t easy
Tried his best to not get involved
When it was done, and the crime solved
He found himself in his favorite bar
Where playing the blues was the star.

I like this, it has all the hallmarks of Bogart, and it has a wry humour at the end. Also – love that particular Led Zep album.
