Fandango’s Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is: It was supposed to be a fun hike through the woods, but none of them could have imagined what it would become. First off, Larry, the guy no one wants to invite, but he’s Sherry’s brother and there’s no choice and just like always, he wears the wrong shoes and ends up whining immediately.

Luckily I brought EarPods but then Joe the diehard naturalist gave me such a hard time I had to pocket them and enjoy “nature”. Joe’s a good guy and he planned the entire outing.

Having previously endured the hikes Joe planned, we started conditioning ourselves a month beforehand. Rope bridges, repelling off medium height cliffs, quicksand traps, traipsing through bear infested areas and of course the menu included only what you could find “on the road”. No actual roadkill was allowed. Dang it. I tried that the first hike with Joe and everyone thought it was mean of me trying to hit rabbits on the way to the first campsite.

Along with the above adventures a river rafting event which was probably the easiest of the agenda, but I knew how to swim. A near fatal disaster occurred as one of the newbies immediately fell out of the boat and ended up with a concussion when he was propelled into a boulder. Joe of course, had all the necessary medical stuff and the 911 crew answered right away.

All in all not a bad trip. I have to say we all made it, even Larry.
