Twelve years ago I was on 24 hour oxygen, kidneys in bad shape and addicted to Fentanyl patches, taking Vicodin and ibuprofen along with various other medications. None of these things stopped pain and I finally got off everything and now only Tylenol if necessary. Probably I am lucky that I’m allergic to strong pain meds…
breath was sporadic
panic often reared it’s head
helpful listening
needed doctors’ care saved me
now I’m able to breathe free

#Haiku Happenings #2: “Haibun Monday 1-29-24: Breath” by yours truly over at dVerse Poets Pub
This is a gutsy journey Cheryl, sounds painful, and it was breath-taking reading, a double take on breath.

I’m glad you read it. My mom would have called it going through the mill but I’m good now

That must’ve been so hard to do! Bravo!

Really terrifying what meds can do with a person… my mother in law worked her way back to simpler painkillers because she could not take those stronger ones.

Certain meds stop my heart so I’m very careful

Cheryl,
You’ve captured your journey from dependence on medications to the triumph of breathing freely, enriched by the haiku’s reflection… Well done!

I felt the relief in that final line, Cheryl. It’s not easy living with pain. I admire your stoicism.
