Growing up in New England, I looked forward to autumn most of all. It was harvest time when all of the fruits and vegetables were ready to be picked, canned, or frozen to enjoy until the next year’s autumn. My mother did it all and how she managed I have no idea really, as I was usually outside playing in leaves or climbing some tree.

Just what I was going to say! I’m jumping in that pile of leaves (in my head) right now. 🍁🍁🍁🍁

when walking around I see all the wasted apples not being used and I wonder who would ever manage to take care of it all.

You task your children with paring knives for applesauce 😂

You captured the tastes of autumn in your haibun, Cheryl, as well as the busy industry of the season. I like the contrast of your mother’s work and your play!

Very well done. It is amazing how the natural cycle continues year after year. Loved your haibun. My mom did the same!
