Marie and Michael looked at the odd sign placed here years ago. She remembered better than Mike because she was the one standing there on the wood platform. He was coming home after Korean War and was one of the lucky ones to arrive relatively unharmed. They stood in silence in the now overgrown area, but the memories of that wonderful reunion and the train’s screeching wheels drowning her sobs. It was taking off down the track again, to deposit more soldiers to their own home towns.

It’s nice that they’re remembering a reunion and not a parting. Lovely story.

A lovely warm story with so much contained in a short space.
The train going forward leads us on to imagining all the other reunions.

I like the image of not just their reunion, but the train continuing on to more hometowns and more reunions. Nice take on this prompt.
