An everyday object for some
I’d have to say it’s my Number One
Think of Star Trek and if you do
You will see why it’s never a two
Every minute of every day it’s with me
Using, needing, cursing its necessity
Black and metal with silver trim
Wheels always acting on a whim
Mostly reliable but still a pain
Not to be used in lightning or rain
I’m sure my companions, ‘cause I always need one
Think getting it in and out of a car is no fun
But they do and I’m grateful for that
Otherwise in my room all day I’d be sat
I see others with electric wheels
I’m not ready to make that yield
At least my arms are getting some movement
It’s the legs that need bereavement
I’ve had some comical times
Underestimating distance finds
Picking up something that falls on the floor
I really don’t do that anymore
So if you visit and think it’s odd
Seeing some object you have to dodge
Just be a dear and set it back
My thank you will have no lack
I’m sure you know of what I speak
It’s not an adventure you should seek.

Thanks. I didn’t intend it to be, but that’s what comes of my writing. I just do it and leave interpreting to the readers☺️

A truly wonderful and useful invention. I love the way it gradually came into view with your words. (K)

At the beginning I imagined it was an umbrella… this is such an interesting ode. A delight working out what your object was. Is it a wheelchair? 💗
