Sunlight shone into the jury box as they led the defendant, in handcuffs, into his seat. The chainsaw was sitting prominently, still bloody, on the nearby table of evidence, along with the lumberjack competition trophy, a newly purchased passport, a well worn pair of hunter’s binoculars, and a plane ticket stub. Joe was definitely guilty but secretly, he knew in his heart that he was justified in killing the attacking bear. The only thing was, he killed a widely known bear that was under protection from the Fish and Game Wildlife Department.
