dVerse Poets Haibun

  • Write a haibun that alludes to liberation.

As a white person I have experienced no prejudice in my privileged lifetime. Living in Texas I found out how much discrimination indirectly permeated my life. I was a transported northerner and spoke with an accent they pretended not to understand and of course being a woman, put me in a corner in the sixties and seventies. There is liberation for white straight men—for anyone else in these areas, freedom is quantified in mostly inappropriate ways. These ways can be subtle or unlawful.

  1. Witnessing the rise of feminism in the 70s I thought things would really change but things are just as bad today – great haibun and testimony…

  2. Cheryl, “undercover” racism, sexism, genderism, ageism, etc. is alive and well on planet earth. It takes those from the privileged segments to stand up and say no, this is wrong. Thank you for the personal sharing and powerful haiku.
