The vertical drop is a lie that highlights the nightmare—falling, falling and then I wake up, eventually finding myself safe in bed which is proof it was only a dream, even if a horrible one. I lay there paralyzed for a few minutes, feeling around to find I really am safe in my bed. My usual decorus after such unpleasantness would be to label it only a dream. The turmoil between the frightening dream and wakefulness seems to last too long and I take the glass of water by my bed. That’s what they do in the movies, supposedly to calm people, but that is misleading, of course, because it’s only an offering not a cure.

Fantastic way to combine the different prompts, it looks so effortless, but my poor head would , metaphorically, probably end up very comfortable with a wall.
I also like that you took it towards what we could call the ‘road less traveled’ and equated the dormiveglia state with a distressed situation, the awful time of waking up from a nightmare.
