It’s funny but up until quite recently, I thought Rushmore contained “dour early presidents”.
I never really had any idea about who they were, only recently learned that they were only carved in the 1920s/30s, far later than I expected and that the presidents were meant to symbolise the stages of the USA.
But I don’t feel so bad now. I asked a quiz question on here – where is Mt. Rushmore – and half the Americans didn’t even know the answer!
