The large stain on the chimney proved there were oftentimes spent in the glow of a fireplace inside. Wanting to relax, the residents tried to wave off the chain of thrumming racket coming from the street. They realized a stint listening to the score from Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” dulling the outside din seemed to help.
