“Well here we are again, Jen. You wanted to hunt for some secret pirate treasure containing your birthstone, emerald, and look what’s happened.” Jack was trying to remove the fish hook lodged in Jen’s hand, without much success. He was using pliers not really thinking about the barbed end as much as he should have. Or was it he was secretly punishing Jen for another misadventure she dragged him into?
“How did I know the treasure was booby-trapped? I thought the group of herring was just swimming around, not hiding something dangerous!”
After the pliers caused too much pain, Jack finally retrieved the hook by cutting off the barbed end with a large pair of wire cutters. Jen was relieved but thought she might need stitches.
“I hope this is the last of these fantasy vacations, Jen.”
“Maybe”, she smiled, as he bandaged her sore hand.
