Have you seen my other shoe? I need the orange one, it goes with my shorts. Jack, have you seen my orange sneakers?

Nope, maybe the dog took it.

You know Bootsie wouldn’t do that. She never snacks on shoes–socks, maybe, but not shoes, especially my shoes. She knows better. Where is that blasted shoe? If I can’t find it we’ll be too late for the potluck!

Jack mutters under his breath: it would be a dream come true to miss the potluck.

I know you hate potlucks, Jack, but it’s your mother’s idea so we have to go! I can’t wear the others, they’re muddy and wet since I wore them jogging yesterday. Where is that sneaker? You know Jack, I might accuse you of espionage, hiding my shoe. Fine, I’ll just change into a sundress and sandals. You haven’t hid them too have you?
