MLMM First Line Friday

His smile was like some kind of magic. I saw it clearly, even from across the baseball field. He was a catcher on the company team. I attended the game with my secretary and nurse friends from the area. The players were GIs from the Army Lab where some of us worked. It was strange really, I had never met him before, but something clicked.

Maybe it was magic. I was watching the game when between innings, the person wearing that smile walked across the field and stopped right in front of me, ME! I was shocked, probably turned red, as I had been watching him but was quite a ways from him. Sometimes now I think he was probably being a bit arrogant as he simply handed me his jacket and asked if I would hold it for him until the game was over. Hutzpah walking!

I don’t remember if I said anything. I do remember feeling something new to me, and hoping my blushing face would allow me to sink into the grass. Love at first sight is how I think of it now, possibly for him, too? After a few months of dating, he popped the question. We were married for 47 years until his death in 2013.

  4. What a lovely story. Definitely not love at first sight for me. Just part of the crowd I hung out with during my teens and I didn’t like him very much. Then one day he offered to teach me to drive and the rest as they say is history. I lost him in the same year as yours, 2nd June 2013.
