Compromise is the name of the game — you can either do it or not, always a choice you have to make. Sometimes it’s on the spur of the moment and your first thoughts rule. Well, that’s my experience anyway.
Anything that takes a lot of thought time is a lot harder. So it’s probably best to try to think ahead about what you might do in a situation that requires a compromise with you needing to take the hit.
Seriously though, taking the hit is not so bad, usually—you will be okay and even be glad you did.

Very wise indeed, although it’s often hard to compromise.

Well said. Compromise usually means each party gives up something, ideally for the greater good.
