Days of the past
This word came fast
From my mother
Exclaimed by no other
I’m warning you, you little twit
I’m not putting up with a conniption fit!
Now being a child of two or three
The word was always a puzzle to me
Fit was the only one I knew
Having many cats, we saw a few
But I wondered how that would apply to me
I never convulsed like the cats I had seen
Nevertheless, my mother was stern
Having a conniption a spanking would earn
I still don’t know what she meant
But treaded softly, nothing errant
Still didn’t know what caused the cats
To have conniptions, maybe rats?

We call them hissy fits here in the foothills of the southern Blue Ridge…and I’m more concerned about my wife having one than the cats.

We lived on a farm away from town and bags of kittens were always left so we had lots of them
