Does Love Last?

I love music, romantic movies, and poetry, but can anyone find their one true love, or are we destined to always be looking? And if we suspect we have found them, what if they don’t find us? Can love last for years on end, is it really credible to think that we as humans can be satisfied with one love for over fifty years?

Wolves have one mate only. They have families, and the pack is the love of their life. If animals can choose one mate and be content, why is it so difficult for humans? We are supposed to be superior in mind, but our happiness and rewards in life are sometimes less than wolves?

I only know five couples who share that kind of lasting love and commitment. How many can you honestly say you know? I’m not writing of persons who “stay together for the children”. I am interested to know about the lasting love and passion of people who married or not, stay together.

  1. What I meant was I’m like the Yogi Berra saying, ” it ain’t over till it’s over”. And it isn’t over, we’re working on it.☺️

    1. Yes, of course. The statement “Does love last”? The question is a little provocative. Are we talking human love between consenting adults? Friends? Even for chocolate? Or between families? I know, I read the post. I don’t think one can define the emotion called love. I mean to say, I’ve found love in my heart, from God. Also for my now partner. It’s a heart/brain thing. Personally? I do not think homo sapiens is monogamous. The way that some species are; like say … geese, ducks or pigeons. Three months ago, I married a beautiful lady; we are both in our late sixties. We still ask the question? “Will it last”?

We’ll see. We both have less time to find out. So, perhaps? Maybe? Cheers Jamie

  2. One who has loved truly, can never lose entirely. Love is whimsical and temperamental. Its nature is ephemeral, and transitory. It comes when it pleases, and goes away without warning. Accept and enjoy it while it remains, but spend no time worrying about its departure. Worry will never bring it back. 🙂

  3. It’s possible. My wife and I are proof. It’s not always rainbows and butterflies, of course, but we are each others’ The One. That said, we know far more people who’ve had failed relationships, bad relationships, and/or no luck in finding that long lasting love. So, it’s possible, but appears to not be the norm, for a variety of reasons I suppose.

    1. Are you asking why it takes work? I think it’s just hard to mesh personalities and beliefs and just having someone that close every day. But you’re with the right person if you don’t mind the hard times, you work together to get through the hard times, and you see your relationship as something worth fighting for. If you don’t, it’ll spell disaster when those hard times come.
Now, if you’re asking why it’s hard to find, that I don’t know. I guess the universe has to align to allow people to even meet, then have the timing work out, then deal with each others’ insecurities and idiosyncricies, and care enough to put in the effort. Just my opinion of course.

  4. So So True. STAYING IN LOVE, IS WHAT MAKE LOVE SPECIAL.
People nowadays are so busy breaking up and divorcing, that soon, on this planet, we may not find a couple, married for over 25 years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
